Fugitive from Illinois arrested in Athens

A Jackson County man was arrested Thursday morning after his pickup truck was stopped for a traffic violation and it was discovered he was a fugitive from Illinois, Athens-Clarke County police said. The truck, driven by 26-year-old Justino Jesus Bautista of Jefferson, was stopped just after midnight for failing to maintain its lane, according to police.

Athens home, vehicles raked by gunfire

A home on Sunny Hills Court was raked by gunfire Wednesday afternoon by someone who shot from an SUV at the home and vehicles parked in front, Athens-Clarke County police said. The home was occupied by two people at the time of the 5:15 p.m. shooting, but neither was injured, police said.
