Head-on crash on Highway 4 in Brentwood hospitalizes three

Three people were hospitalized, one with major injuries, after a head-on crash Wednesday between a pickup truck and an SUV on Highway 4. A medical helicopter took the critically injured person to an undisclosed hospital, according to Battalion Chief Jake Gonzalez of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Fire crews used hydraulic tools to cut that person free from the wreckage, he said.

Concord City Council to Discuss Possible Move to District Elections

The Concord City Council tonight will discuss changing the city's elections to a district-based system rather than the current at-large setup. The proposed change is in response to two letters, one from a Walnut Creek-based attorney and another from the Malibu-based law firm Shenkman & Hughes, which has sent similar letters to other jurisdictions around the state, including recently in Santa Rosa and San Rafael.
