Ocean County Sheriff's officer injured in single-car crash

An Ocean County Sheriff's officer was injured Saturday night when he swerved out of the way of another vehicle on a state highway in Tom's River, the Sheriff's department said Sunday. The officer, who hasn't been named, was traveling on Route 37 near Mule Road in his marked Ford Explorer around 10 p.m. The officer swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, and hit a concrete barrier.

Four injured in head-on collision in Brick

A head-on collision injuring four people, two being juveniles, were all considered to have "serious head injuries" according to Brick Township police. According to a Brick Township press release, Danielle Canaley, 37, and her juvenile passenger, were driving northbound on Hooper Avenue when the car crossed into the centerline of the roadway and struck the Chrysler Town and County that was being occupied by Vincent Vargas, 47, and his juvenile passenger.

Largest drug bust in county history includes arrests in Brick

Two Brick residents are among the 30 people arrested in what the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said is the largest drug takedown in the 30-year history of the prosecutor's Special Operations Group. "Ocean County unfortunately has been designated as ground zero for the opiate epidemic here in New Jersey and when I first became prosecutor it became really known to me that this is something that we need to attack and we need to address," Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said at a press conference on Friday, March 9, of the culmination of operation "Heading Back", which began last April.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death of a 30-year-old Brick man at an apartment complex in Toms River. According to a press release from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, the Toms River Police Department and local paramedics responded to a 911 call at the Hampton Gardens Apartments on James Street at 9:20 p.m. March 5. When they arrived, according to the press release, the victim, who police have not identified, was found unresponsive with a gun shot wound.

A 30-year-old Brick man was shot to death at a Toms River apartment complex on Monday night, authorities said. Police responded to a 911 call at Hampton Garden apartments on James Street around 9:20 p.m. and found that a man had been shot, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.
