Broomfield is a major suburb of both Denver and Boulder. In 1885 Adolph Zang bought land for a railroad depot, which was thus named Zang's Spur. It was a spur off the main railroad line where locally grown grains were loaded into the railroad cars for delivery to the Zang Brewing Company. It began as an agrarian community and was later populated by gold seeking families during the Gold Rush. It was later named Broomfield after the broomcorn which is grown in the area.
