Jay Stream bought the land for a town after becoming frustrating while attempting to build a subdivision in nearby Naperville. His daughter, Carol Stream, was nearly killed in an automobile accident in 1957. Doctors said that her recovery might improve with good news, and so he named the town in her honor. Four months later she awoke from her coma and stated that it "odd and silly" to have a town named after her.

Flood-control facilities operating as rain sweeps DuPage County

DuPage County officials say they're operating most of their major flood-control facilities today as well as all their smaller, gravity-operated facilities following overnight storms that dumped between 1.1 inches and 2.15 inches of rain countywide. The precipitation raised elevations in Salt Creek and the West Branch of the DuPage River enough to trigger operation of the county's large flood-control facilities, including the Elmhurst Quarry, Fawell Dam in Naperville, Spring Creek Reservoir in Bloomingdale and the Armstrong Park Reservoirs in Carol Stream.
