About: carol stream, illinois

There is a common misconception that the town was named for a waterway. But in fact, the town is named for founder Jay Stream's daughter. Jay Stream bought the land for a town after becoming frustrating while attempting to build a subdivision in nearby Naperville. His daughter, Carol Stream, was nearly killed in an automobile accident in 1957. Doctors said that her recovery might improve with good news, and so he named the town in her honor. Four months later she awoke from her coma and stated that it "odd and silly" to have a town named after her.
