Carrollton is located in west central Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The land once belonged to the Creek Indians and was incorporated in 1829. It was named for Charles Carroll, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The town was featured in the 1983 Murder in Coweta County although no scenes were filmed in Carrollton. Brittany Bannister, 23; Janet Gilbert, 40; Amanda Lawhorn, 25; Bridget McDaniel, 40; Daron Stoffer, 35; Dwayne McCalvin; Michael Melanson, 33; and Jessie Wilson, 26; were all arrested at 2194 Chestnut Place for possession of meth between 5:24 and 8:45 a.m. The amount of meth each suspect possessed ranged from less than a gram to approximately three grams, according to the arrest warrants.
