Clearwater police nab carjacking suspect in less than 90 minutes

It didn't take long for Clearwater police officers to find and arrest a suspect in connection with a carjacking near Crest Lake Park Jan. 22. According to police, Samuel Eric Brown, 39, of Clearwater was taken into custody less than 90 minutes after he allegedly committed the crime. Police received a call from a driver for United Cab about 7:40 a.m. who reported he had been robbed and his vehicle taken at knifepoint.

Zero students injured in Clearwater school bus crash

None of the 38 students on their way to Safety Harbor Middle School Jan. 22 suffered injuries when a pickup truck rear-ended their school bus about 9:30 a.m. Clearwater police charged Matthew Luther, 38, of Clearwater with careless driving and he was cited for having an expired tag. Police say most of the students on the bus boarded another bus and continued on to school.

Holiday teen charged in rear-end crash in Palm Harbor

A 18-year-old from Holiday faces multiple charges after fleeing from a Pinellas County deputy and then rear-ending another vehicle about 1:41 a.m. Jan. 21 near the intersection of U.S. 19 North and Tampa Road in Palm Harbor. According to deputies assigned to the sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team, Kingzig Montanez was driving his mother's 2017 Hyundai Elantra southbound on U.S. 19 North near Innisbrook Drive.

Motorcyclist crashes while fleeing from deputies in Clearwater

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a crash that occurred about 3:47 p.m. in the eastbound lane of State Road 590, just west of the McMullen Booth Road intersection in Clearwater. According to deputies assigned to the sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team, Michael Brown, 21, of Clearwater was driving his 2016 Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed northbound on U.S. 19 North, near Drew Street in Clearwater.

Pinellas activating cold weather shelters Jan. 17-18

Cold night shelters for the homeless in Pinellas County will be open Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 17-18. The shelters open between 6 and 6:30 p.m. with the exception of Peace Memorial in Clearwater, which opens at 5 p.m. Shelter guests are provided a hot evening meal, a warm safe place to spend the night, and breakfast the following morning.
