Located on the St. Jones River, it was named by William Penn for Dover in Kent, England. Dover and Kent County were deeply divided over the issue of slavery and was a "stop" on the Underground Railroad, due to its proximity to slave holding Maryland and free Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It was also home to a large Quaker community that encouraged a sustained emancipation effort in the early nineteenth century.

Delaware lawmakers are eyeing a proposal to increase the state's minimum wage. A bill to be voted on by the state Senate on Tuesday would increase the current minimum wage of $8.25 an hour to $8.75 an hour on Oct. 1. DPH Confirms 30 Flu-Related Deaths in Delaware

DOVER, Del.- Delaware's Division of Public Health is reporting two more flu-related deaths that occurred during the last two weeks of February, bringing the 2017-2018 season death total to 30. This number breaks the previous single-season record of 28 flu-related deaths, set in 2014-2015. The deceased were both women, 83 and 84-years-old, from New Castle and Kent counties, respectively.

Police: Two wanted in connection to assault, robbery at Del. bus station

The Dover Police Department says on Thursday, just after 10:00 AM, 29-year-old Antonio Powell and 21-year-old Iesha Brown, both of Dover, were involved in an assault that happened at the DART Bus Station at 520 South Queen Street. Police say Powell and Brown assaulted a 51-year-old woman and continued to punch her in the head, while she was on the ground.
