Elizabethtown was founded in 1797 and named after the wife of Andrew Hynes one of the cities earliest settlers. They built blockhouses and forts for defense of the area. In 1850 the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company began construction on a railroad from Louisville to Tennessee that went directly though Elizabethtown. Known locally as E'town the area was the basis for the 2005 Cameron Crowe movie Elizabethtown though the movie was not actually filmed in the area.

Several area hospitals help victims of Hart Co. crash

Multiple people were taken to area hospitals after a crash which involved buses, commercial trucks and private vehicles on I-65 South, Tuesday in Hart County. Hardin Memorial took in a total of 10 patients from the wreck, five children and five adults.

Elizabethtown man accused of leading police on vehicle pursuit on icy roads

Police say snow and ice didn't stop a wanted Elizabethtown man from leading officers on a dangerous vehicle pursuit. According to court documents, a warrant had already been issued for the arrest of 23-year-old Davis Echevarria on Thursday, Jan. 11. Police say that on Dec. 28, Echevarria was working as an employee for Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge & Cafe, near the intersection of North Dixie Avenue and Freeman Lake Park Road, when he stole $380 from the cash register.

A Gaithersburg, Maryland, man is accused of driving roughly 600 miles to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to have sex with a 13-year-old girl he met online. Kentucky State Police say they were contacted by the mother of the victim, a 13-year-old girl, and later interviewed that girl at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

4 arrested after violent home invasion, robbery

The suspects - Jacob Holman, 23, of Louisville; Jahi C. Hall, 23, of Elizabethtown; Colton D. Trimble 23, of Elizabethtown; and Ryan J. Hulings, 20, of Vine Grove - were arrested early Jan. 11 by Louisville Metro police. The robbery happened around 1:30 a.m. on E. Brandies Ave., according to arrest reports for the men.

The site for the trial of a man charged with the murder of a 7-year-old girl in south central Kentucky has been moved to Hardin County. Allen County Circuit Court Judge Janet Crocker granted the motion filed by Timothy Madden for a change of venue of his jury trial and to move the start of the trial to a later date.
