A suburb of Chicago, Elmhurst was originally inhabited by the Pottawatomie people until the arrival of European settlers in 1836. Originally named Cottage Hill the area took on the name of Elmhurst in 1869. Today Elmhurst holds the third largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the Chicago area and is home to the distribution center for Famous Amos cookies. The Theatre Historical Society of America, a non-profit education organization, is also located in Elmhurst.

One lane of York Road in Elmhurst still closed due to water main break

One lane of York Road was expected to remain closed until at least 8 p.m. Thursday between Butterfield Road and Lexington Street in Elmhurst because of an early morning water main break at the southeast corner of Butterfield and York. Paul Burris, the city's utility operations manager, said repairs to the water main were slowed because workers encountered unknown utilities that were in the way.

Lombard residents push for new vote on tax hike for library

In a move that could scuttle plans for a new Lombard library, a group of residents wants to put a question on the November ballot asking if a tax rate increase approved more than a year ago should be reduced. Voters supported the property tax increase in November 2016 after Helen M. Plum Memorial Library officials promised to tear down and replace their existing building at 110 W. Maple St. But the project has been stalled because the library hasn't been able to get permission from the park district to build more than one story on land that used to be part of Lilacia Park.
