SOMERSET - The selectmen appointed Justin Raulino to a firefighter/paramedic's job at their meeting last Wednesday, bringing the Somerset Fire Department up to full staff at 31 firefighters. Voters approve override to fund new Durfee High School

A new B.M.C. Durfee High School will move forward with the help of a debt exclusion after voters approved the measure by a 4,941 - 3,136 margin. The proposed 501,000-square-foot facility, to be build on Durfee's current Elsbree Street campus, is estimated to cost around $263.5 million with the Massachusetts School Building Authority agreeing to pay $165 million - about 62.5 percent of the total cost - and the city contributing $98.5 million.

Middleboro board finds multiple concerns with South Coast Rail plan

Selectmen discussed the Supplemental Environmental Impact Report on the South Coast Rail project and now they must submit their final comments to the state by March 23. Among their concerns in the report was the traffic study, that the project could violate local bylaws, and that the town has not been consulted on the project.

Police seek driver who fled in Dartmouth fatal; suspect arrested in Wareham hit-and-run

As police continue to seek the driver in a fatal  hit-and-run on Route 6 in Dartmouth Saturday, Wareham police have charged a Sandwich man in a Friday hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a Wareham firefighter. "I just want everyone to know that she was a good mother," said Alyssa Doster of Fall River, who identified herself as a cousin of the victim.
