County Schools Enrollment Continues Rapid Decline

Enrollment is down significantly for Greene County schools and it could get worse over the next decade, according to information given to members of the Greene County Commission's Education Committee. Greene County Director of Schools David McLain handed out information on enrollment, utility costs, capital expenses, funding from state Basic Education Programming and facts about the school system's current facilities.

Report: Man accused of shooting officers killed himself

Authorities say a man accused of shooting and wounding two police officers in Tennessee died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Kingsport Times-News reports that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Kingsport Police Department said Monday that preliminary autopsy results indicate 58-year-old Hugh Kyle Hurd committed suicide Nov. 9. Kingsport police say one of the patrol officers shot was struck by two shotgun blasts and has undergone two surgeries, remaining hospitalized.
