STOCKTON - There's been a major migration of homeless people from illegal camps near downtown Stockton in recent weeks, leaving many of them grumbling about the forced moves, the loss of personal belongings and important documents, and the treatment they have received from some officials. Aside from the fact the homeless campers are in violation of several laws by squatting on public land, blocking sidewalks and creating piles of trash, officials primarily cite basic safety and public health as the reasons for moving them from their camps, many of which were well-established communities.
