Company proceeding with Nims School overhaul expects to open this year

A patient monitoring and telemedicine company moving into the old Nims Elementary School is hoping to change its original plans to include up to 93 additional parking spaces, which would require the demolition of the school's former gymnasium. The request made by AvaSure, a Grand Rapids-area patient monitoring company, aims to amend its agreement with the city and clarify their plans, said Muskegon City Planner Mike Franzak.

Major cleanup of Zephyr oil toxic hotspot on Muskegon Lake imminent

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality are hoping to complete a significant portion of the clean-up project at the former Zephyr Oil Refinery this year, officials said during a public meeting in Muskegon Township Thursday.
