Naugatuck is a consolidated borough and town located in western Connecticut. Just south of the town of Waterbury, Naugatuck straddles the Naugatuck River, which it was named for. The area was settled in 1701 and quickly grew into a farming community. During the Industrial Revolution the town transformed into a "mill town," much like many other towns found in the Naugatuck Valley. The town mostly manufactured rubber and in 1892 nine rubber manufacturing companies combined to become the United States Rubber Company. The company was headquartered in Naugatuck until the 1980s.

Police: Gun Used During Road Rage Outburst In Naugatuck

A 66-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after road rage incident during which he threatening motorists with a gun, police said. James Tzenos, 66, of Graham Ridge in Naugatuck was charged with first-degree threatening, second-degree reckless endangerment, breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor, they said.

Dean's list

Olivia Ford of Naugatuck was named to the dean's list for the spring 2017 semester at the University of Maine at Farmington. Borough man sentenced for drug dealing, robbery

A Naugatuck man will serve six years in prison for selling dope and robbing a suspected drug dealer who retaliated for that stick up by attempting to invade the home of the man's alleged accomplice. Nakeem Robinson, 23, and 18-year-old Joshua Petro were charged as the result of a Naugatuck police investigation, touched off after two armed men tried to get inside a home on Hoadley Street in November.

State releases SAT scores

Across the state, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the achievement standard on the SAT climbed slightly in math and English language arts. Buses to substitute trains as Metro-North makes improvements to Waterbury Branch

Metro-North Railroad says that track improvements will be made to the Waterbury Branch this upcoming weekend from August 4-6. Over the past few weekends, since July 14, Metro-North crews have replaced crossing surfaces and rails and ties at each location, as well as upgraded the Washington Avenue Bridge in Waterbury with new timbers, and cut brush and weld rail joints along the tracks.

The scores of Naugatuck and Region 16 students on the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium paralleled trends across the state: students continue to perform better at English than math. The state Department of Education last month released preliminary results for the 2016-17 SBAC, which is administered to students in grades three through eight.

Naugatuck couple loses bid to reinstate lawsuit

A Naugatuck couple lost their bid to reinstate a lawsuit against the borough of Naugatuck over repeated flooding of their Nettleton Avenue home. A three-judge panel of the state Appellate Court upheld a Superior Court judge's dismissal of the legal action that alleged borough officials failed to remedy inadequate street drainage.
