Naugatuck is a consolidated borough and town located in western Connecticut. Just south of the town of Waterbury, Naugatuck straddles the Naugatuck River, which it was named for. The area was settled in 1701 and quickly grew into a farming community. During the Industrial Revolution the town transformed into a "mill town," much like many other towns found in the Naugatuck Valley. The town mostly manufactured rubber and in 1892 nine rubber manufacturing companies combined to become the United States Rubber Company. The company was headquartered in Naugatuck until the 1980s.
