Just about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta sits a small town known as Newnan, in Coweta County, Georgia. The city doubled in population between the year 2000, when there was just over 16,000 people, to the year 2008, when the census showed that there were 33,000 residents. The city was named after North Carolinian General Daniel Newnan. It was considered a hospital city during the Civil War. Based on the cult movie trilogy directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell , Evil Dead: The Musical was conceived in 2003 as a horror-comedy-spoof.

Tybee Island receives recognition as a Georgia Exceptional Main Street Program

The city of Tybee Island was presented with a 2017 Exceptional Main Street award at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs' fall conference awards ceremony on Oct. 4. The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 4. Tybee Island is one of eight Georgia Main Street communities that was selected this year to join other programs across the state as proven leaders that have a strong economic impact with an equally strong historic preservation ethic. According to the DCA, only 16 of the 94 cities that participate in the Main Street program stand out among the rest to be part of the Georgia Exceptional Main Street Program this year.

Heard Senior Center 40th Anniversary

The Center started as a program for fellowship, nutrition awareness, a balanced meal and many health resources for the elderly citizens of Heard County. Meals were catered in, but Dorothy thought there was room for improvement, so with the help of the county and Chatt-Flint, a central kitchen was added and Mrs. Juanita Goodson was hired as Food Service Coordinator.

An Athens man was one of five arrested in connection with "Operation Rattlesnake," an undercover investigation into child sex crimes. The operation was spearheaded by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit with cooperation from 11 police and sheriff's offices.
