Palatine police are investigating what might have been a gang-related shooting about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1300 block of North Rohlwing Road. A 9-1-1 caller described hearing several "pops" near where some people were fighting.

Palatine homeowner ignites fire while fixing leaky pipe

No injuries were reported Saturday after fire broke out in a Palatine home as its owner was using a torch to repair a pipe, authorities said. Palatine firefighters were called to the home in the 1300 block of North King George Court at 5:08 p.m. on a report of a first-floor fire.

Man accused of making bogus 911 call in Palatine

Authorities announced Friday that a Chicago man was charged with felony disorderly conduct after making a bogus 911 call seeking help from Palatine police. Bail was set at $40,000 at a hearing in the Rolling Meadows courthouse for Leonard Perry, 29, of the 1600 block of South Millard Avenue.

Both groups are expected to be at the Daley Center in Chicago Friday for arguments over Palatine High School student Nova Maday's request for an injunction lifting the requirement she use a private changing stall in the locker room.

School library grants for two Palatine-area districts

Republican state Rep. Tom Morrison of Palatine announced Wednesday that $17,637 in school library grant money has been approved for two districts within the 54th House District he serves. Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 will receive $8,725 and $8,912 will go to Palatine Township Elementary District 15, through the School District Library Grant Program that is designed to help provide more library books and materials for students attending public schools in Illinois.

An Indian restaurant in Palatine that was accused of not taking precautions to prevent illegal drug sales on the premises and allowing another restaurant to operate in its building without a license has formally ended its operation in the village. Village council members this week approved an ordinance to reduce by one the number of Class D liquor licenses as a result of the closure of India Bhawan at 1280 E. Dundee Road.
