School library grants for two Palatine-area districts

Republican state Rep. Tom Morrison of Palatine announced Wednesday that $17,637 in school library grant money has been approved for two districts within the 54th House District he serves. Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 will receive $8,725 and $8,912 will go to Palatine Township Elementary District 15, through the School District Library Grant Program that is designed to help provide more library books and materials for students attending public schools in Illinois.

An Indian restaurant in Palatine that was accused of not taking precautions to prevent illegal drug sales on the premises and allowing another restaurant to operate in its building without a license has formally ended its operation in the village. Village council members this week approved an ordinance to reduce by one the number of Class D liquor licenses as a result of the closure of India Bhawan at 1280 E. Dundee Road.

A Palatine man was sentenced to 19 years in prison Tuesday after admitting he forced his way into a Rolling Meadows home on the pretext of collecting church donations and injured a 75-year-old woman. Vladimir Georges, 23, pleaded guilty to the 2016 home invasion during a hearing Tuesday before Cook County Judge Marc Martin.
