About: pearland, texas

Pearland is located in southeastern Texas, right outside of Houston. The city began in 1882 as a siding switch on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway and originally named Mark Belt. The area was known for its fruits trees—mainly pear trees—and was believed to be an "agricultural Eden." However, when most of the fruit trees were destroyed during the Galveston hurricanes of 1900 and 1915, the area was prone to a period of desertification. In 1934, when oil was discovered in the area, the population grew significantly.
