In a groundbreaking new study, a report released Monday from researchers at Colorado State University-Pueblo finds that the marijuana industry provides a net positive economic benefit to Pueblo County, even when accounting for demands on law enforcement and social services. The report estimates that the marijuana industry had an economic impact of more than $58 million in the county in 2016, while leading to added costs of roughly $23 million - resulting in a more than $35 million positive net impact.

Federal jury gives Colorado murderer $6 million after he was beaten by a guard

A federal jury in Denver has awarded $6 million to a 36-year-old convicted murderer for a prison beating he suffered at the hands of a guard following a medical seizure, leaving him confined to a wheelchair. As part of its decision, the U.S. District Court jury said the prison guard, Mitchell Mullen, beat Jayson Oslund "maliciously and sadistically" with the intent of hurting him, even though the inmate was suffering a seizure associated with his epilepsy, according to court records.

The officers deployed a Taser on the suspect, who resisted, ran and led police on a chase through the yards of neighboring homes Pueblo police officers shot and killed an armed suspect who pulled a gun on them during a chase, the Pueblo Police Department said in a Wednesday news release. Pueblo police responded to the 900 block of East 9th Street just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night on a restraining order violation when a female caller said a male refused to leave her home and had a firearm.
