Grand Opening Planned for New Spa in State College

A new spa offering a variety of massage therapies, services and amenities in downtown State College is getting ready to open its doors. Revive Modern Massage, located in the Allenway Building at 311 S. Allen St., will hold a grand opening from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 30. Owner Alexa Krepps is also one of three therapists on staff who will offer services such as therapeutic massage, manual lymphatic drainage, reiki, hot stone massage, pregnancy massage, couples massage, and oncology massage for patients who are undergoing or who have completed chemotherapy.

Paige Smoyer promoted at NAMA

Paige Smoyer has been promoted to manager, government and technical affairs of the North American Millers' Association. Smoyer joined NAMA in October 2015 as government affairs representative.

The fifth annual SnowFest and Juniata Valley YMCA Polar Plunge will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the beach at Greenwood Furnace State Park. SnowFest activities will include: broomball, ice skating, free snowshoe trials, educational programs, bonfire on the beach, winter camping, ice harvesting, animal furs and skulls, fire starting, and others.

The Diner May Be Going Out of Business

The Diner, 126 W. College Ave., is closing its doors in April if a new owner does not purchase the business, current owner Dan Rallis told WTAJ-TV's John Clay on Tuesday. Opened in 1929, the former Ye Olde College Diner has become world famous for its "Grilled Stickies," a bakery treat that's grown in popularity beyond the restaurant to be sold at other locales and shipped around the world -- with or without nuts.

While recognizing National Day of Racial Healing in the borough, State College Mayor Don Hahn and Borough Council President Evan Myers on Tuesday condemned President Donald Trump for a remark last week during an immigration meeting in which he reportedly used profanity to describe Haiti, El Salvador and African nations. "We condemn the unspeakable words by President Trump attacking immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries during the course of negotiations over immigration in the Oval Office," Hahn and Myers said in a joint statement.
