Garage fire in Taylor unrelated to meteor

Yes, a garage did catch fire about 10 minutes after the meteor was reported to be seen in the night sky Jan. 16, but none of it struck the garage. An unrelated accident caught some racing fuel on fire, torching a truck and the garage it was in at about 8:25 p.m. The fire started in the engine compartment of the truck, which was inside a garage on Merrick Street when the blaze started.

Person responsible for dog's death being sought

TAYLOR - A dog left chained up and left to suffer in a garage in Taylor is now at the center of an investigation that could result in felony charges against the person or people responsible. The black and white pit bull type dog was found Wednesday by a neighbor on Marvin Street after his own dog began barking toward the area and appeared agitated.

Man who led officers on multi-city chase charged with five counts

The Taylor man, who was seen by robbing Tony's Tattoo Supply in Lincoln Park, was caught after a chase that also went through Southgate and Taylor on Christmas Eve. Last week he was arraigned on the breaking and entering charge, as well as for fleeing and eluding, malicious destruction of a building, resisting arrest and reckless driving.

Dinky Donuts closes at Southland Center

Dinky Donuts, which has been in the Southland Center in Taylor for several years, was still passing out sample doughnuts and selling product Dec. 31, but has been boarded up since.
