Third suspect charged in Fifth Street shooting

A man who has had two shots at an alternative sentencing program is the third suspect in custody in a Jan. 13 shooting at a West Point residence. According to Clay County Jail records, 27-year-old Jenerrio Demarco Jones, who is from Lowndes County, was arrested Monday in Marshall County in northwest Mississippi where investigators think he'd been hiding out.

Breach at testing vendor exposes Mississippi students' data

Mississippi education officials say a data breach at a testing vendor exposed information from 663 students in Tupelo and Jefferson County. State Superintendent Carey Wright says Minnesota-based Questar Assessment believes an unauthorized user gained access to records from 2016 tests at Tupelo Middle School, Tupelo High School and Jefferson County Junior High on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1. Wright says she's demanding a third-party security audit, a corrective plan and the reset of passwords.

The region's largest retail center saw increased sales in November but numbers two, three and four - Oxford, Columbus and Starkville - faltered slightly, according to the latest tax revenue figures. But overall, taxes collected on November retail sales in northeast Mississippi were up in 53 of 94 towns compared to November 2016.
