Two bills to create second county judge in Lee alive

On Tuesday, the House passed a local and private bill that would give the Lee County Board of Supervisors the authority to approve a second county judge post to help alleviate a crowded court document. Another bill is pending in the Senate that would perform the same function.

More than 4,000 Mississippi soldiers leaving home for a year

More than 4,000 Mississippi National Guard soldiers are leaving their homes this month as part of a year-long deployment. The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, headquartered in Tupelo, is leaving for a three-month training deployment in Fort Bliss, Texas, followed by nine months overseas.

Saltillo leaders seeking tourism tax

The following people were booked into the Lee County-Tupelo Adult Jail in connection with felony charges ending Thursday at 11 a.m. Jonathan Poole, 23, of Pontotoc, was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, enticement of a child, exploitation of a child, possession of 15 or more sales slips with intent to defraud. A County Road 325 Palmetto woman said a neighbor called and said one of her dogs had been shot.
