An inoperable handgun was found at Waukegan District 60's alternative school for sixth- through 12-graders, a district official said. Extra safety measures were put in place Thursday, the day after the gun was discovered, and plans are underway to install metal detectors and x-ray machines at the school, Waukegan District 60 spokesman Nick Alajakis said.
