Flash fire at Shields Packaging in Dudley sends workers to hospital

A flash fire from a chemical at Shields Packaging Inc. on Oxford Avenue resulted in several workers being taken to a Worcester hospital Friday morning, according to the Fire Department. A flash fire is a sudden, intense fire caused by ignition of a mixture of air and a dispersed flammable substance.

Gang member testifies he grabbed gun after fatal shooting in Worcester

The host of an after-hours party three years ago at which 27-year-old Christian O. Puello-Rosado was fatally shot identified Angel Ortiz-Santos in court Thursday as the gunman. Juan Garcia, 38, told a Worcester Superior Court jury he wrested the firearm from Mr. Ortiz-Santos after he shot Mr. Puello-Rosado during the early-morning hours of March 22, 2015, at a party in Mr. Garcia's apartment at 5 Narragansett Ave. Testifying under a cooperation agreement with prosecutors, Mr. Garcia, who acknowledged being a member of the Latin Kings, said Mr. Ortiz-Santos and Mr. Puello-Rosado argued before the shooting.

Jury selection starts Thursday in after-hours party slaying trial

WORCESTER - Jury selection is scheduled to begin Thursday in Worcester Superior Court for the trial of two people charged in connection with a fatal shooting three years ago during an after-hours party on Narragansett Avenue. Angel Ortiz-Santos, 25, of 40 Belmont St., is under indictment on murder, assault and firearm charges in the March 22, 2015, shooting death of 27-year-old Christian Omar Puello-Rosado after an argument at a party at 5 Narragansett Ave. A woman who was among 35 to 40 partygoers was also shot, and she survived, according to authorities.
